Change of Name to Pacific Immigration Development Community
At the 21st Regular Annual Meeting of the Pacific Immigration Directors’ Conference (PIDC) held in June 2018, Members formally endorsed the change of name for the organisation to the Pacific Immigration Development Community.
The change was made to better reflect the sustained and substantial work activities undertaken by PIDC and the Secretariat to implement Members’ priorities. Pacific Immigration Directors' Conference was seen as confusing as it implied that PIDC work was to only meet and was a ‘one off’ annual activity.
The new name was endorsed after extensive discussions with a number of options considered and voted upon. Members eventually selected the new name as it reflected the close and collaborative relationships between Members and also retained the PIDC acronym which was already a recognised brand for immigration in the Pacific Islands region.
