PIDC Training

The PIDC Secretariat works with Members, other regional organisations, donors and specialists to build the skills of immigration officers in the region. Training coordinated through the PIDC complements national training programmes and ensures that donor funds are better-targeted Training encompasses Courses and Secondments.

PIDC Courses

Supporting immigration departments in the region to build the skills and knowledge of their officers is a key component of the PIDC's work.  This work is currently undertaken in two streams.  Firstly, the PIDC Secretariat is working with the Bali Process Regional Support Office and the International Organisation for Migration to develop a model curriculum and model training modules to support all Members to develop a basic national introductory and induction immigration training programme for their staff.  Support is to be provided through Train the Trainer programmes that have already been commenced with the support of the Bali Process and IOM.
For more advanced training, the PIDC Secretariat works in partnership with larger PIDC Members (such as Australia and New Zealand) and partner organisations to provide intermediate and advanced immigration training in the region. Training courses currently administered or part-administered by the PIDC include:

•    Document Examination Principles and Application (DEPA)
•    Foundation to Intelligence Training
•    Pacific Region Immigration & Intelligence Programme

If you are an immigration officer in a PIDC Member country or territory and are interested in attending one of these courses, please contact the Secretariat for further information on how members can participate in this annual courses.

For information on specific courses please refer to Modules.

PIDC Secondments

The PIDC runs a secondment scheme to further build the knowledge and experience of immigration officers in the region.

The secondments are usually to other immigration agencies within the region, are operationally focused, and are 1 to 2 weeks in length. Secondees are expected to provide a report following their secondment.

If you are an immigration officer in the region and believe a secondment would benefit you and your organisation you should speak to your manager in the first instance before the department contacts the Secretariat to discuss secondment options in the region.

If you are a director or head of immigration, or a senior manager, and would like to find out more about the opportunities available to your staff, please contact the Secretariat.
